Client Space

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is a global leader in pediatric health through care, research, and education. The need for innovative research in pediatric diseases led to a need for growth, which meant additional research space.

The $205 million, 445,000sf. state-of-the-art, LEED Silver certified research facility includes clinical, executive, and administrative space as well as wet and dry labs.

The goal of the project was to decompress some work areas that were growing at an exponential rate in existing research and clinical spaces, help improve the overall space, the culture, and improve connections and transparency between all research departments and buildings.

RCF Group and Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center have partnered on many projects in the past and RCF Group continues to demonstrate value while engaging through the process. By defining scope, developing a project budget, setting parameters and assumptions, RCF Group was able to deliver a top-performing space which met the functional and aesthetic requirements set forth in the project charter.

RCF Group deployed site surveys, storage audits, and department interviews to help further define the basis of design for the typical workstations, collaborative spaces, private offices, and storage.  The net result of the surveys helped to define the needs for space and generated a cost savings of over $360,000 from the furniture budget and defined selections to workstations, storage, and collaboration spaces needed in the building as well as product offerings, which contributed to the project LEED Silver certification.

Location T reflects how the organization is looking to function and capitalize on collaboration. A key design feature is improved, evolved workstations that fit the type of work being performed, allowing for a more efficient workplace, which is helping employees to work smarter.  Also, departments are able to interact- both planned or impromptu- to better leverage the collective knowledge share within Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

The design of the facility improved productivity, improved outcomes for patients, improved innovation in clinical research, and improved operational costs. The design and space planning also allows access to daylight all the way to the core of the building.
